A hillside coffee — mineral, alive, and long on the palate. Bright at first, then warming into cocoa as it cools. Made for filter, sturdy enough for espresso.

Bugisu sits on the western slopes of Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano rising to 4,321 metres on the Uganda–Kenya border. The Bagisu — the people who give the region its name — have grown arabica here for over a century, at elevations most coffee could not survive. The co-operatives we work with anchor Kahawa Nzuri: three generations on the same hillsides, and one lot at a time.
