The name is two languages laid together. Kahawa — Arabic and Swahili for coffee. Nzuri — Swahili for good. Two words that meet exactly where our coffee comes from: East Africa, on the trade routes that carried arabica out of Ethiopia a thousand years ago.
Kahawa Nzuri was started to do one thing well — connect the world to Africa through exceptional coffee, honestly. Not the "Africa" of stock photographs. Not the "sourcing story" that begins with a farmer's hands and ends with a marketing team. The real coffee, from the real hillsides, sold under the names of the people who grew it.
The bean is what ships. The story is what sells. We are always answering: who grew this, where, and why does it taste like this?
We are based in Oslo. We roast in small batches. We source through direct relationships — currently with the Bugisu Co-operatives on Mount Elgon in Uganda, with five more African origins being brought online through the launch year. We are not Fairtrade certified. We are not organic certified. We are traceable to the farm, and that traceability is stronger than a certificate, because it is personal.
Where this goes
Over the next five years, Kahawa Nzuri will become an importer, a roaster, a wholesaler, a café supplier, a subscription house, and eventually the connection point for coffee tourism to our Uganda partners. The website is designed to grow with that — every year, more origins, more stories, more people at the table.
For now, though — one flagship coffee, five more in sourcing, one journal, and a promise.
The promise is simple. Great coffee, told honestly.
